Multicultural Care proud to part of Dementia Friends Unite

With an estimated 433,300 Australians living with dementia in 2025[1], and an estimated 1.7 million people in Australia involved in the care of someone living with dementia[2], work in this area is more important than ever. Understanding and improving care for those living with Dementia is essential for supporting individuals and their families.

Dementia Friends Unite

Our Care finder team is proud to work with Dr Diana Karamacoska from the National Institute of Complementary Medicine at Western Sydney University on the South Western Sydney Dementia Friends Unite project. Find out more about the project below!

What is the Dementia Friends Unite?

This educational project was designed by collaboration with community partners and families to help spread awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. By learning more about this brain illness, researchers hope people feel more comfortable talking about dementia and seeking support services for their loved ones.

How is Multicultural Care involved?

Multicultural Care has helped champion the Dementia Friends Unite project across Sydney. Our Care finder team contributed valuable insights for the material created for the project and also connected researchers to community groups seeking information about dementia.

Our team has also helped to connect people in need of dementia support with services and resources.

The researchers are grateful for the passion and dedication shown by the whole Multicultural Care team to this project!

What events has Multicultural Care organised?

The Care finder team recently conducted their first dementia workshop session for the Vietnamese Elderly Friendship Association with 55 participants. Everyone enjoyed the session and gained valuable insights into dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

What upcoming sessions are planned?

In April, Multicultural Care will run dementia workshops with the Vietnamese Centre-Based Respite group and the Arabic Centre-Based Respite group.

Additionally, the Care finder team will offer dementia workshops for the Spanish and Macedonian communities later this year. More details will be provided once plans are finalised. Stay tuned!
